On Friday April 16, 2010, the Energy Chamber and the Arthur Lok Jack Graduate School of Business formalized their Corporate Responsibility alliance and strategic approach to CSR at the school's campus through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for greater collaboration in the area of CSR.

Helping Haiti through cooperation
The Energy Chamber, in collaboration with bpTT initiated and coordinated a mammoth response to the devastating situation in Haiti and accumulated close to $6M TT in relief items, aid and in kind donations. Working with the Office of Disaster Preparedness (ODPM), the bpTT team and Energy Chamber collaborated closely and this coordination of effort, manpower and networks witnessed success made possible only through cooperation.

Climate Change is set to the major topic of discussion at the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting taking place this week in Port of Spain. It also features prominently on the agenda of the other parallel events taking place in the run-up to the Heads meeting, including at the Commonwealth Business Forum. As the representative association for Trinidad and Tobago’s Energy Sector, the South Trinidad Chamber of Industry and Commerce (STCIC) will be making a presentation at the Business Forum, focusing on mitigating Trinidad and Tobago’s greenhouse gas emissions.
Raising the CSR profile in T&T
Corporate Social Responsibility continues to permeate the business landscape of Trinidad and Tobago with the recognition that CSR policies and frameworks lend to more competitive and sustainable businesses, corporate image, reputation and brand building, greater transparency within organizations and corporate best practices.
Nationally, the STCIC continues to be the only business organization which highlights the efforts of its members in adopting and implementing sound Corporate Social Responsibility principles. This year was no different as five (5) companies were recognised for their sustained efforts focused on CSR initiatives. BG Trinidad and Tobago Limited; BHP Billiton Trinidad and Tobago; Guardian Holdings Limited; Methanex Trinidad Limited and Omega Telecom Limited were all honoured at the STCIC’s annual CSR Leadership Awards held on September 18th, 2009 at the Hyatt Regency Trinidad.
Speaking at the STCIC's second annual CSR Leadership Awards, Dr. Emily Gaynor Dick-Forde, Minister of Planning, Housing and the Environment. whose Ph.D thesis focuses on CSR, had the following to say:
"Back in the 1990’s when I read for my PhD in Corporate Social Reporting in the Caribbean it was an interesting challenge because at the time this was not part of the business culture in Trinidad and Tobago or the Caribbean. So while my colleagues were studying the impact of, or the effect of, I was studying the absence of Corporate Social Responsibility and Reporting rather than what its presence meant to the business landscape.
