Analytical Technologies Ltd wins Regional Award for Entrepreneurship

On Thursday July 23, 2009, STCIC member, Analytical Technologies Limited was presented their Award as a winner of the Trinidad & Tobago round of the Pioneers of Prosperity Program at the Inter American Development Bank's office in Port of Spain. The Pioneers for Prosperity Program, which is financed by the Multilateral Investment Fund of the Inter-American Development Bank, the John Templeton Foundation and the Social Equity Venture Fund (S.E.VEN Fund), aims to inspire a new generation of entrepreneurs by rewarding and showcasing firms that point the way to greater prosperity, and connecting these firms to networks of other entrepreneurs, technical expertise, and financial capital.

In presenting the awards, Mrs. Vashtie Dookiesingh, MIF Specialist, noted that the winning companies shared key traits, among them the ability to innovate, create value added and commitment to building human capital and sustainable business performance. They also both faced competition from around the globe, requiring more than ever the achievement of world class performance both in local and export markets.

In accepting his award, Mr. Namdeo Maharaj, CEO and founder of Analytical Technologies, stressed the importance of the development of human capital in Trinidad and Tobago, and saw this as the fulfillment of the goal he set for himself when he first started the company which provides world class laboratory and environmental services to the energy sector. He also emphasized the fact that Trinidad and Tobago had the resources required to create world class companies, and encouraged entrepreneurs that have a vision to be untiring in their pursuit of it.

In his remarks, Mr. Nick Buckley of the OTF Group, the company that adjudicated the competition, congratulated the two companies, Analytical Technologies Ltd and Sasha Cosmetics, on winning the Award, noting that it was an unusual occurrence to have two winners from the same country, but in this case they were both very deserving of the honour.

Analytical Technology Limited received a grant of US $40,000 to invest in training and technical infrastructure for their company. They are also automatically entered into the regional competition for a chance to win an additional US $60,000 and the prestigious title of Pioneer of Prosperity Caribbean. This final round of the competition will be held in Jamaica on September 11, 2009.

The Pioneers of Prosperity Awards Program is a global program made up of regional competitions spanning the Caribbean, Africa and Central America. Seven countries participated in the inaugural Caribbean competition: Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Guyana, Haiti, Jamaica and Trinidad and Tobago.
